Again, another heart-warming e-mail from one of our beloved clients from the North Auckland Region (NZ). They’ve retro-fitted four houses – commercial broilers – with CORAX lighting. They chose HATO’s CORAX LED light after observing a similar eight shed (PULSA) installation made on a nearby farm.
"The sheds were originally fitted with 3 rows fluorescent fittings (0-10V dimmable ballasts) double 36W at 8.4 m centers – total 33 fittings of 72 watts (1.17w/m2). Light intensity was measured at floor level and was found to vary from 20 to 180 lux during brooding.
This was causing obvious huddling of chicks along the light paths. During grow-out, the poor light distribution became a problem in reverse, with the ‘pooling’ of light beneath the fittings being too intense when the average intensity was correct."
Before: 3 rows fluorescent fittings (0-10V dimmable ballasts) double 36W at 8.4 m centres – total 33 fittigs of 72 watts (1.17w/m2).
"The new lighting system provides 5 rows of CORAX 9W fittings at 4.2 m centers – 110 fittings x 9W which is only 0.5W/m2, but because of the low eave height of 2 m and reflective walls and ceilings, average light intensity is around 45 lux. Light distribution is excellent."
After: 5 rows of CORAX 9W fittings at 4.2 m centers – 110 fittings x 9W which is only 0.5W/m2
The farm manager states that the new HATO lighting system creates a great working environment, and they have noticed a dramatic reduction in maintenance costs.
“Electrician call-out to repair old fluorescent fittings were becoming very expensive! Lighting power consumption has been halved – a welcome cost saving. Litter and bird performance have been excellent”.
